by Carlo Lucidi
Visual Artist, Costume and Set Designer, I was born in Rome in 1989. Proficient scribbler since my birth, I got my degree from the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome in 2014. I consider myself as an image creator.
Memory, time and space are three ingredients I always like to play with. They are the components I use to create the situation of locus amoenus I like to set my visions in. Visions, visions to share. Organizing rationally what is irrational, something conceptual, metaphysical, that has to be brought to life.
When I get into a project, I’m always starting with a sensation. Usually it’s not a very deep one, it can be something I felt looking in the eyes of a person I bumped into in the street, a special scent somebody was wearing, a texture I found breaking a glass… Only in a second moment I mix this feeling with the topic I finally start developing.
Talking about costume designing, I used for this set a technique I usually resort to and that fits very well my poetic work. I built the costumes up directly on the models’ bodies, sculpting on them with fabric and pins.
This set I lead in Prague, is highly inspired by Czech medieval culture and history.
